  1. IBM PC and Compatibles:
  2.     The World Factbook data can be accessed in a variety of ways.
  3.     
  4.     There are 2 directories of additional resource materials beyond
  5.     what is available directly within the World Factbook Database.
  6.           * MAPS folder has the maps for the 247 countries in the
  7.              following formats: PICT, PCX, and TIFF -- with and without
  8.              city names.  These are made available for import into your
  9.              graphics program.
  10.           * DATABASE folder has numerical data in a variety of formats
  11.              so that you can import them into your favorite database or
  12.              spreadsheet program and compare the data about all the
  13.              countries!  -- Find out which country has the lowest or 
  14.              highest birth rate / death rate / economic growth rate 
  15.              / GNP / etc.

  17.     **** DOS ****
  18.     For DOS we have a full database in TextWare, which includes text
  19.     descriptions of each country, color maps for each country,
  20.     and text appendices about the United Nations, world 
  21.     organizations, and measurements.

  26. Getting Started

  28. DOS:
  29.     One of the batch files in the DOS directory will get you started.
  30.     Steps required:             
  31.         1. You must be in the drive that contains the CD.
  32.             (Do this by typing the letter that is the CD drive,
  33.             E.G. type "E:"
  34.             where E is the letter assigned to your CD drive.)
  35.         2. Type "cd \dos" to get into the DOS directory.
  36.         3. If you have a VGA or Better Monitor type VGA
  37.             This is a batch file that starts TextWare with color images.
  38.         4. If you have a Hercules or Monochrome Card, type HERC
  39.             This is a batch file that starts TextWare with black and
  40.             white images.
  41.         5. Other monitor types:
  42.             See the "OTHER.TXT" file in the "DOS" directory.
  43.             Use the OTHER.BAT batch file using the directions
  44.             in the "OTHER.TXT" file.
  45.         6. Hints and tips:
  46.             * press the escape key to get past the first screen.
  47.             * press F1 for on-line help.
  48.             * The data starts with an Introduction on card 1 
  49.               and has a table of contents on card 2.
  50.                (type:  "CARD 1"  or "CARD 2")
  51.             * press the escape key to back out of an operation.
  52.         7. For more detailed help, type "TWDOC". This batch file will
  53.             run TextWare with the on line TextWare Manual.
